NEU NOW gallery: Activations, Interventions and Holding Space

Located in the Machinegebouw at the Westergasfabriek terrain, NEU NOW gallery presents thirteen unique artworks, on display and open to the public free of charge every day of the festival. Several artworks will be performative, activating in intervals throughout the opening hours of NEU NOW gallery.

1859 kilo, 15 h 15’

This site-specific installation is composed of wooden boards affixed together with thin wire, precariously containing a pile of sand. Activated in intervals, Emma Van Roey focuses on the concept of time and its cyclical and elusory nature as the piece is left to decay, sand slipping through its barriers before it is collected and returned once again.

In this intimate four-minute performance audience members are invited to join Laurent Delom three at a time to recreate aspects of Delom’s personal and emotional journey into empathy, surprise and bitter deceit.

Performances will run continuously during fixed intervals on:

Sisyphean

Park Hyo Jae's machine, Sisyphean, draws from one of Da Vinci’s mechanical inventions. A kinetic demonstration of endless labour, the artwork shows neither a beginning nor an end but a process, encapsulating the interminable pointlessness of continuity without progress.

Activated for 10 minutes every hour, on the hour, while NEU NOW gallery is open.
