Christal Paper, 2015

Victoria Grin

Victoria Grin work a lot with images; She collect, buy, recycle, file, decompose, compose….For this installation art which associates photography, sculpture and painting, she put together several old pictures found in flea markets as well as old family pictures. She printed a selection on large formats of tracing paper, then drenched the bottom part of the paper into paint. Once dry, the paper stands alone like a sculpture and the rest of the paper gives an interplay between light and transparency. Through this technique, her aim was to combine different media and question the limit of photography by materialising it. The painting covering over the initial image also speaks about time and memory.

Artistic Statement

In 2014 I was in formation for a year at the CEPV (Centre d'Enseignement Professionnel de Vevey), section photography. There I explored the photographic technique but soon enough I had the desire to experiment others artistic mediums. So I started in 2015 the ECAV (Ecole des Beaux-arts du Valais), where my training is ongoing. Photography has always been part of my life, I am looking, collecting, taking, asking, undoing, remaking it... From the beginning, at the ECAV, I am exploring other techniques, testing their limits and their possibilities of connections. But I am also talking about places, collecting traces, trying to materialise them, to capture their identity, to talk about the passing of time.
